Abstract

Mongol’s establishment of a powerful empire in Asia Minor can be seen as a result of their invasion towards the West. When the Ilkhanid State, founded by Hulagu, set its rule in Asia Minor, a process of orientation to sedentary culture from the nomadic culture started. The most important indicator of that process was the efforts of urbanization. In this context, the most radical and intense examples of urbanization, which started with Hulagu, can be seen Ghazan Mahmoud Khan. During the reign of Ghazan Khan, in which several cities were founded and the reconstruction of the ones that were previously destroyed, one of the most important urbanization activities was the cities that were founded in different places that were known as “Mahmoodabad” cities
