From The Beginning Of The World War I To The Russian Invasion: Epidemics In And Around Bayburt BİRİNCİ DÜNYA SAVAŞI’NIN BAŞLANGICINDAN RUS İŞGALİNE; BAYBURT VE ÇEVRESİNDE SALGIN HASTALIKLAR
Epidemics is a serious issue affecting the societies and states as well as a crucial thing causing many people to die since the old times. Ottoman Empire struggled with this serious issue for a long time. One of the periods in which this problem appeared as one of the most difficult ones is the years of the World War I. Beside every negative incident, especially geographical and seasonal conditions in the Caucasian front made it more difficult to tackle with the epidemics. Diseases such as typhus, relapsfever, cholera and typhoid deeply affected soldiers and the civil society in and around Bayburt which is one of the crucial points of that front. While cholera was highly seen in the region before the war, typhus caused many people’s death during the years of the war. On the one hand soldiers in the front were fighting against the enemy, on the other hand they tried to struggle with the disease. In this study, the epidemics appeared in and around Bayburt and the military and social influences of these epidemics have been touched upon starting from the early years of the World War I until the mid-1916 when Bayburt was invaded by the Russians.
