Turkish Settlement and A Brief Historical Assessment of Kastamonu

Abstract

We provide information about Kastamonu region from the tabloids of Hittites since they reigned until 4000 years in this BCE. A dark era came with Dorian imperium until year 1000 BCE and the region was called as Paphlagonia in honour of Paphlagon’s settlement. Lydian dominant scale in Paphlagonia ended after the battle with Persian’s at 546 BCE and reign of Persia started from that day. “Kimiatene” became the first capital of Pontus Empire in 288 BCE following conquer of coastal area and Gokirmak valley by Pontus following Hellenistic period. Byzantine reign on Kastamonu lasted for about 7 centuries starting from 395 BCE. Migration of Ghuzz Turks from Turkistan, Ma wara'un-nahr and Khorasan to Anatolia and Kastamonu has started after the establishment of Great Seljuk Empire in Khorasan following Battle of Dandanaqan in 1040. Region of Paphlagonia rapidly Turkified in this way, Greeks retreated to Aegean islands and Istanbul due to hard living conditions.
