Abstract

The legends of Sadd-i Iskandar and the Great Wall of China appeared chiefly in the middle ages, despite the fact that their actual foundations were not built in that time. For centuries, the literature on Sadd-i Iskandar has been unavoidably enhanced by some contributions of Judaism, Christianism and Islam. However, this triple impact would help Alexander get further away from its real character, rather than the elimination of uncertainty. Quite the contrary, the medieval resources about the Great Wall were so limited that this would be challenged although it is more realistic than Sadd-i Iskandar. The richness of the literature on Sadd-i Iskandar, despite its complexity, and the silence of the resources on Great Wall of China have kept the interest alive in the both walls.
