Abstract

Although there are some sources dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries related to minstrel literature, there are not many sources written about minstrel music. The oldest source we have in this regard is a work written by Ali Ufki in Istanbul in the 17th century. In Mecmuâ-i Sâz ü Söz there are many notes of minstrel tradition and examples of poetry of minstrelsy. In Mecmûa-i Sâz ü Söz, there are first examples of folk music written with Western notation system in the 17th century without distinguishing between Turkish Folk Music and Turkish Art Music. For this reason, it can be said that Mecmûa-i Sâz ü Söz is the first compilation work on behalf of Turkish folk music and Ali Ufki is the first compiler of folk music. In this study, an index network, such as the norms related to the saz poets and their works, the correlations between the texts, the socio - historical context, the transference and the melodic flow, will be examined in terms of the art of love. The role of Ali Ufki as a cultural mediator will also be mentioned.
