Abstract

It aims to educate students who understand, understand, interpret, question, analyze, evaluate and synthesize what they read. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of reading circle method on the achievement of reading comprehension of 5th grade students. The study was conducted using a pre-test and post-test controlled design in a public school in İzmir control group (n = 16) and experimental group (n = 16). The reading comprehension achievement test developed by the researcher as a pre- and post-test to determine the reading comprehension achievement was applied at the beginning and end of the 6 weeks process. A focus group interview was conducted with six students. Observer notes that observed the applications and gave opinions about the applications were also included in the research. Quotes were also taken from the students' grades in the application. Test analyzes were performed using SPSS program. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained from the research, a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group in which the reading circle was applied. The achievement level of reading comprehension of the experimental group increased compared to the control group. The students liked the reading circle method. The students stated that they learn better than they are active. According to the results of the research, various suggestions were made.
