A Study on the Topics of Denonation And Connotation In Semantic Theories
This study investigated the concepts of denotation and connotation taking part in semantic theories. During the research, some information about the founder of modern linguistics Ferdinand De Saussure and concepts of signifier, signified, referrant, reference and sense were offered because these basic concepts were required to dealt with in order to understand the concepts of denonation and connotation. Besides, theories developed for the concepts of denonation and connotation can gain mean if these concepts in question and Saussure’s views of linguistics can be well understood. The study follows a descriptive methodology and it is believed that it sheds light on further similar research in the field.
