The Access Of School Sports Halls Under Malatya National Education Directorate Of Malatya Battalgazi District İn Terms Of Students With Disabilities
The aim of this study is to evaluate the access of school sports halls under Malatya National Education Directorate of Malatya Battalgazi District in terms of students with disabilities. The sample of the study consisted of 20 schools with a sports hall in the Battalgazi district of the province of Malatya. For this purpose, after obtaining the necessary permissions from the Malatya Battalgazi District National Education Directorate, all schools with a sports hall were reached. Accessibility levels of school sports hall were evaluated according to the standard measures of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies. Within the scope of the study, a pre-defined interview form consisting of 10 questions was given to the school administrators and the answers were statistically recorded. In addition, the accessibility levels of all sports halls were determined by the researcher. During the observations, informations of physical education teachers were also taken about the schools which had a sports hall. According to the answers, 15 of the school sports hall have ramps for students with disabilities and 5 of them do not have ramps for students with disabilities. School sports halls do not have any landmarks for visually impaired individuals, while all 20 gyms have heating systems that are compliant with standards. 17 of the school sports hall have toilet, shower cabins and locker rooms for disabled people. On the other hand, only 3 schools in the sports hall do not have a toilet, shower cabin and changing rooms for the disabled.
As a result, we can say that the school with sports halls in the Battalgazi district of Malatya are partially accessible for disabled students, but most of them do not meet the standards of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies.
