Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and History Education
To be able to understand sense of history education in today’s Turkey, it is necessary to know how and where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who is the constructive of Turkish Republic, was up-brought, his thoughts and doings about history education. Because, he also determined the outline of history education policies in Turkey. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk aimed at the education of people by his thoughts and doings. Indeed, history education policies in government programs at republic period were going to be established and carried out in accordance with the rules made by him and the intellectuals and statesmen who are contemporary of him. In this study, by means of starting from the neighborhood where Atatürk grew up, the change and transformation in his thoughts about history education will be analyzed.
