Abstract

Osmanlı Devleti’nde kız sıbyan ve rüştiye mekteplerine kadın öğretmen yetiştirmek için 26 Nisan 1870 tarihinde İstanbul’da ilk kız öğretmen okulu Darülmuallimat açılmıştır. Kızların eğitiminde önemli bir ihtiyaca cevap verecek olan Darülmuallimat’a öğrenciler titizlikle seçilmiştir. Mektebe öğrenci kabul şartları, talimatname ve nizamnameler ile oluşturulmuş ve dönemin şartlarına göre belirlenmiştir. Öğrenci sayılarının yeterli olmasına ve ülke ihtiyacını karşılamasına dikkat edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin devam durumları, tatil ders dönemleri, kıyafet uygulaması, hal ve hareketleri, beslenmeleri, barınmaları ve sağlık durumları üzerinde önemle durulmuştur. Mektepte öğrenciler için sosyal kültürel pek çok faaliyet düzenlenmiş, sergiler açılmış ve kongrelere gidilmiştir. Kızların eğitimi için gerekli öğretmenleri yetiştirmeye yönelik okulun öğrenci profili ve okulun işleyişi bu çalışmanın konusudur. Kız öğretmen yetiştiren bu okulun toplumsal yapıyı değiştirme kabiliyeti ve eğitim tarihine önemli katkılar sağlamasından dolayı araştırılması önemli görülmüş ve bu konudaki boşluğun doldurulması hedeflenmiştir. Araştırmanın problemi; öğrencilerin okula hangi şartlarda kabul edildiği, öğrenim gören öğrenci sayıları ve öğrencilerin devam durumunun ne olduğı, tatil-ders dönemleri, kıyafet, sağlık, beslenme vb. durumları ile ilgili ne gibi gelişmeler yaşandığının ortaya konulmasıdır. Nitel araştırma yönteminin kullanıldığı bu çalışmada; Cumhurbaşkanlığı Osmanlı Arşivi’nde eğitimle ilgili kalemleri taranmış, salnameler, süreli yayınlar, araştırma-inceleme eserleri kaynak olarak kullanılmıştır.

Abstract

In order to create woman teachers to newely established primary and secondary schools for girls in the Ottoman State, the first teacher’s training schools (darülmuallimat) was founded on 26 April 1879 in İstanbul.  Students were chosen in great care to the school which was expected to give an important impetus for girls’ education. Rules for acceptance of studenst to the school were determined by laws and definded in the spirit of the time.  Numbers of students were determined by the need of the state for educating the girls. Attendance, clothes, holidays, course times, behavoirs, foods, houses and healths of studens were considered in great care.  For the students many social and cultural activities were held, exhibitions were made.  Students were sent to foreign states to join conventions. The student profile of the school that trains the teachers needed for the education of girls and the functioning of the school are the subject of this study. Student profiles, ability to change society and contributions to history of education of the darülmuallimat were found worthy for exploration.  Conditions of students in the school were greatly investigated. The study is based on qualitative research.  The Turkish Cumhurbaşkanlığı Ottoman Archive’s listings for education was monitored and official yearbooks, official published periodicls and second hand sources were used to create this paper.
