Abstract
Araştırmada, viyola çalgısının tarihsel gelişim sürecinde büyük bir yere sahip olan ünlü viyolacı Maurice Vieux ve adına düzenlenen viyola yarışması hakkında tarihsel incelemeye yer verilmiştir. Paris Konservatuvarı’nda oluşturmuş olduğu viyola sınıfı ve bestelemiş olduğu viyola eserlerinin yanı sıra aktif bir performans hayatı içerisinde yaşamış olan Vieux, viyola çalgısının keman ile örtüştürülmesi algısını yıkmayı hedeflemiş bir isim olmuştur. Viyolanın teknik gelişimine katkı sağlamış olan etüd kitapları yazmış, önemli orkestra eserlerindeki viyola partileri üzerine çalışmalar gerçekleştirmiştir. Fransa’da bir grup viyolacı tarafından kurulmuş olan Les Amis de l’Alto viyola topluluğu da aynı hedef çerçevesinde bir vizyona sahip olmuş ve Maurice Vieux onuruna düzenledikleri viyola yarışması ile büyük bir yeniliğe imza atmışlardır. Bu çalışma içerisinde Maurice Vieux’un yaşamı hakkında bilgi aktarılmış, viyolanın gelişimine katkı sağlamış olan girişimleri araştırılmış ve Les Amis de l’Alto kuruluşunun hedefleri kapsamında düzenlenmiş Maurice Vieux yarışması hakkında detaylı bir incelemeye yer verilmiştir. Aynı zamanda, diğer önemli uluslararası viyola yarışmaları araştırılmış, tarihsel olarak sıralanmış şekilde sunulmuştur.

Abstract
In the research, a historical review is given about the viola competition organized on behalf of the famous violist Maurice Vieux, who has a great place in the historical development of the viola instrument. Vieux, who lived in an active performance life in addition to the viola class he created at the Paris Conservatory and the viola works he composed, became a name that aimed to destroy the perception of matching the viola instrument with the violin. Vieux, wrote study books that contributed to the technical devolopment of the viola and carried out studies on viola parts in important orchestral works. Les Amis de l'Alto viola ensemble, which was founded by a group of viola players in France, had a vision with in the frame work of the same goal and they made a great innovation with the viola competition they organized in honor of Maurice Vieux. In this study, information about Maurice Vieux's life was given, his attempts that contributed to the development of the viola were researched, and a detailed examination was given about the Maurice Vieux competition, which was organized. At the same time, other important international viola competitions are researched and presented in chronological order.
