Abstract

Abstract

The Democratic Peace Theory covers empirical findings and most theoretical implications for which democracies will hardly ever fight each other. Democratic Peace Theory, which entered the International Relations Discipline in the 1980s, argues that democracies will not fight each other and that, historically, except for exceptions, peace between democratic states is guaranteed. Democratic Peace Theory indicates that economic development is also effective in ensuring and developing peace and democracy, and in later studies, it is indicated that states will avoid war because they are economically interdependent. This study will examine the establishment process of the European Union, the reasons for its establishment and its existence today within the framework of the Democratic Peace Theory. Considering the establishment process and development of the European Union, this study will try to conclude that the democratic European states came together because they both came together with common norms and gained more economic gain than they would gain by fighting, by solving the problems between them.
