Abstract

The Anatolia Peninsula had been an objective of the neighbouring powers such as the Sassanids and the Muslim Arabs one after the other onwards the VIth century in which the Eastern Rome began to live political and military failures. The events effected the socio-economic situation deeply and as a result of this the settlements and the population of the peninsula incurred a great deal of losses. The situation, which continued until the recovery and the counter attack of Eastern Rome in Xth century, gained a new extent by the rapid advent of the Saljuqid Turks into the peninsula and with the begining of the Crusades following this. Examining the campaign routes directed towards Anatolia, is useful for explaining the peninsula settlements and the socio-economic situation besides enlightening the aforesaid issues.
