Abstract

In this study, we discuss the relations between residents and Syrian asylum seekers living in Antep and Kilis cities in terms of the concepts of residency, strangerness and marginality. In the framework of the theoretical discussions in the literature, we reasses the data obtained from our field research in Antep and Kilis to understand the relations between asylum seekers and residents. The first section of the study focuses on the relations between host and stranger, second section is interested in the theoritical discussions around social type of “stanger”. The third section of the study embraces “marginal man”. In the conclusion, all these theoretical approaches are evaluated with the help of empirical findings about the relations between Syrian asylum seekers and residents.
