This research aims to examine an instructional process designed to support the spatial thinking skills of 3rd-grade students based on the K12 Skills Framework. In an era where technology is rapidly changing due to the effects of globalization, it is crucial for new approaches in education to aim at developing spatial thinking skills from the early childhood period. Therefore, the activity plans prepared by the researcher were implemented in the 3rd-grade life studies class, with three-dimensional materials used as one component of the instructional process. The action research method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The study group consists of 38 students, 23 girls and 15 boys, studying in the 3rd grade of a public primary school in the city center of Sivas during the 2023-2024 academic year. These students were selected using criterion sampling and convenience sampling methods. Skill observation forms, pre-perception forms, post-perception forms, student interview forms, and student products were used for data collection. Content analysis method was preferred for the analysis of the obtained data. According to the results of the research, students identified having their ideas considered, creating products, and active participation as aspects that supported their learning after the implementation. These findings reflect students’ perceptions and do not constitute separate measurements of social-emotional, cognitive, or physical development. These results underline the importance of developing spatial thinking skills from an early age and supporting this skill through educational programs. This research emphasizes the importance of learners making sense of knowledge by structuring it rather than memorizing it and finding opportunities to apply their skills. On the other hand, a competent development chain is necessary for the transfer of skills to real life. It is essential for all teachers in the school to coordinate on this issue, form horizontal learning communities and share a discussion on skills, skill development or skill development challenges that need to be addressed in relevant learning areas.
