Abstract

Abstract

This theoretical-conceptual study proposes the Somatic-Digital Hybrid Micro-Break Model (SDHMM) as a preventive, holistic framework in music education addressing the high prevalence of performance-related musculoskeletal disorders (PRMDs). Rather than enrolling human participants, this research synthesizes evidence across music pedagogy, ergonomics, somatic education, and digital health to build a model grounded in current knowledge. Data collection relied on a structured literature search (Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar) using predefined keywords (e.g., musicians’ health, microbreaks, fascia awareness, wearable technology), with priority given to recent systematic reviews and conceptual/empirical studies. Data analysis followed a thematic content approach to integrate four pillars: (1) Musicians’ health and PRMD; (2) Digital health technologies for objective monitoring and personalized feedback; (3) micro-breaks for neurophysiological and biomechanical renewal; and (4) Somatic education focusing on fascia, interoception, and neuromuscular balance. The remarkable outcome is a five-layer model that couples real-time IMU/EMG monitoring with 1–3 minute somatic micro-break protocols (fascial release, breath coherence, targeted tone reduction, cognitive reset), producing a data-informed, individualized learning ecosystem. The model is expected to reduce acute fatigue and pain, mitigate PRMD risk over time, enhance attention and learning consolidation, and support sustainable artistic performance. The SDHMM offers a practical, scalable foundation for technology-supported, preventive pedagogy in conservatory settings and studio teaching.
